Manchester City Accelerates £60M Dani Olmo Transfer Negotiations with RB Leipzig

Will Manchester City have a new signing sewn up by the end of next week? It has been a quiet transfer window so far for the world champions. A new report suggests that the champions are moving quickly to tie up a deal for RB Leipzig playmaker Dani Olmo.

Ferran Martínez has reported for Mundo Deportivo that Manchester City have accelerated negotiations for Dani Olmo. Martínez also reports that the €60 million release clause in Olmo’s current contract with RB Leipzig expires on July 15. He further reports that Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Liverpool all held interest in signing the Spanish international. It is also reported by Martínez that while Barcelona would like to sign Olmo. But they cannot afford a move for the RB Leipzig midfielder Martinez further expains. Furthermore, Martínez reports that the world champions see Dani Olmo as the perfect player to replace either Kevin De Bruyne or Bernardo Silva if they leave Manchester City this summer. Lastly, Martínez adds that Dani Olmo wants his future resolved by July 15.

Could Manchester City’s reported move for Dani Olmo point to a key departure from the champions?

It stands to reason that City will only move for a player like Olmo if there is to be a key departure this summer. As Ferran Martínez reported Dani Olmo is a similar type of player to Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva. While he isn’t a like-for-like replacement for either it is doubtful City would move for a player like Olmo if there wasn’t space in Guardiola’s squad for him. It remains to be seen if either De Bruyne or Bernardo will depart the champions this summer. But if either did Dani Olmo would find a role in the Manchester City squad. When fully fit he can be a bonafide match winner. It is just a matter of staying fit consistently that holds Olmo back as a player.

It remains to be seen if the report from Ferran Martínez is proven correct. There is no doubt that the champions will look to strengthen their squad this summer. With that in mind, the report from Ferran Martínez suggests that Manchester City are in the process of trying to complete a deal for Dani Olmo. The Spanish international is a player who would add another dimension to Pep Guardiola’s squad. It now appears to be a waiting game to see whether or not City intends to quickly tie up a deal for Olmo.
